Heartland Hawks Women's Soccer Team
11/05/14 - Karley Draheim and Bruna Prates created history for Heartland women's soccer as they became the first Hawks to win Mid-West Athletic Conference Player of the Year awards. Draheim was honored both as the M-WAC Co-Player and Co-Freshman of the Year, while Bruna Prates was named the M-WAC Co-Goalkeeper of the Year. Draheim tallied four goals and 13 points on the season, and led the team with 5 assists, while Prates made an impressive 82 saves on the year.
10/18/14 - In their final home match of the season, the Heartland women's soccer team hosted the Lake County Lancers at the Corn Crib. During the first half, the Lancers scored three goals. Sandra Zavala scored one while Honeydeighez Cruz scored the other two goals. The Hawks fought hard to get back in the game, but in the end came out with a loss.
On Tuesday, the Lady Hawks traveled to the Parkland Cobras home field (Champaign, Illinois) for the second meeting of the season. It gave the Cobras a second chance to beat the Hawks and that they did. The Hawks fought well but could not pull through, and left with a loss of 0-4 against the Parkland Cobras. The first goal was scored off of a penalty kick, by Catherine McHale, in the first four minutes. The second goal was scored by Emily Bushue in the 40th minute of the first half. As second half came around, Catherine McHale was able to put in another two, which racked it up to 0-4. Heartland's keeper, Alyssa Sickler, had a total of 13 shots on goal with 9 saves.
10/11/14 - On Saturday, The Hawks took on St. Charles Community College. The Hawks came out on top with a goal by Tori Doubet. However, later in the game, the Hawks fell short by giving up three goals making the game a 3-1 final score.
10/8/14 - On Wednesday, the Heartland Hawks Lady Soccer Team traveled to Lincoln, Illinois for an important conference game. Both teams fought and were 0 to 0 coming out of the first half. Near the end of the game, Karley Draheim scored the one and only goal of the game allowing the Hawks to travel back home with a win.
10/4/14 - On Saturday, the Heartland Hawks Women's Soccer Team faced Southwestern Illinois College at home. The lady hawks had three shots on goal and played extremely hard. SWIC scored both of their goals in the first half and the hawks were unable to rebound in the second half, leaving them to fall 2 to 0.
9/30/14 - On Tuesday, the Hawks faced the Lady Cougars from Illinois Central College for the second time. The Cougars came out on top leading 1-0 going into the second half, but the Hawks fought back tying the match with a penalty kick to end regulation time. The game went into overtime with Hailee Whitemire scoring with thirty seconds left on the first Half of the OT to end the game with a 2-1 victory!
9/27/14 - After the Hawks defeated Elgin on Friday, they stuck around to take on Waubonsee Community College on Saturday in Sugar Gove, Illinois. Karolinna Garcia led the teams with three goals, while Tori Doubet also added one to the scoreboard, as the Hawks were able to hold the Lady Chief's to a 4-1 win! Garcia had her sixth multi-goal game of the season, and has 13 total goals in only nine games.
9/26/14 - The Hawks traveled up to Elgin Community College to face the Lady Spartans on Friday. The Hawks had a hard fought match by possessing the ball very well throughout the field, and gained another victory with a final score of 2-1. Both goals were scored by Karolinna Garcia, which represents her fifth multi-goal match of the young season.
9/22/14 - Due to the loss of players to injures, Joliet Junior College forfeited the suspended match against Heartland, giving the hawks had more time to prepare for the long weekend ahead of them.
9/16/14 - On Tuesday, the Lady Hawks competed against Parkland Cobras, playing on their home turf for the first time this season. It was a very close game but the Hawks pulled away with the 1-0 win due to a Hailee Whitmire goal. Whitmire had a break away chance, and it was one versus one as she was able to slip it under the Parkland keeper, Nathalya Martins. The goal was assisted by Karley Draheim, freshman, with her amazing through ball. Heartland's goalkeeper, Alyssa Sickler, freshman, had 9 shots on goals and 9 saves.
9/06/14 - The Heartland Hawks faced Lewis and Clark Community College on Saturday, September 6th in Godfrey, Illinois. Although the Hawks made a valiant effort to find their second win of the season, the final score was a loss of 0-5. Bruna Prates made 16 saves in the net.
9/03/14 - The Heartland Hawks women's soccer team achieved their first win of the season against Illinois Central College in East Peoria, Illinois. The final score was 3-2 with Hailee Whitmire scoring one goal and Karolinna Garcia scoring two goals, her second straight two goal match. One assist was made by both Katie Druien and Garcia.
8/30/14 - The Heartland Hawks women's soccer team began their 2014 campaign with a 4-4 tie against Jackson College at Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois. Karolinna Garcia shined for the Hawks as she scored two goals and tallied one assist, while both Amber Villarreal and Hailee Whitmire scored one goal apiece. Heartland came very close to winning the match within the final minute before Jackson scored the equalizer. Katie Druien and Karely Draheim also each added an assist for the Hawks. In the goal, Bruna Prates stopped 15 shots.
11/3/2012 - Heartland's Season Ends at District Championship
The Heartland Hawks had and amazing season, for the first time in the program's history they were Region 24 Champions. On Saturday they faced off against St. Louis CC for the District Championship and the chance to move on to the National Tournament. St. Louis made the first mark scoring in the last two minutes of the first half, going up 1-0 before halftime. Heartland answered in the second half scoring with Jackie LaRocco finding the net off a Brittany Mielke assist. St. Louis CC answered the Hawks goal with one of their own a minute later and with their third goal with 16 minutes left in the game. St. Louis CC moves on winning 3-1 and will head to the National Championship.
10/28/2012 - The Hawks Continue Their Run
With the time winding down in the Region 24 Championship game the Hawks were looking for a chance to score. With about five minutes left in the game Heartland got their chance. With three Hawks' players in the box in front of the opponents goal, Rachel Murrill found a chance to score and put the Hawks up 1-0 over Kaskaskia College. Time would expire and the Heartland Hawks would be the Region 24 Champions for the first time in the programs history. Heartland is now headed to the District Championship, Saturday, November 3rd at Heartland in the Corn Crib against St. Louis CC.
10/25/2012 - Heartland is Headed to the Region 24 Final
The Hawks win the semi-final after a penalty kick shoot-out 5-3 over Parkland College. Brittany Mielke scored the first goal of the game off a direct kick from about 20 yards out, perfectly into the opposite upper corner of the opponent's goal, with 10 minutes left in the half. In the second half Parkland scored with about 5 minutes left in the game off a deflection from Heartland's goalkeeper. The game would remain tied 1-1 after two 10 minute golden goal overtimes. The teams headed to the penalty kick shoot-out, where five players from each team would have a shot on goal. Danielle Koncius, goalkeeper for Heartland stopped Parkland's second attempt, while all five Heartland players placed their attempts to the low corners of the goal to make the outcome 5-3 in favor of the Hawks.
10/16/2012 - The Hawks Keep Their Streak Alive
Heartland Women's Soccer managed another shutout win on Tuesday. Alex Fahlbeck scored early in the first half on an assist by Sarah Snow. Snow passed the ball to Fahlbeck and Fahlbeck turned on it at the top of the 18 and sent a rocket shot to the far left corner of the goal. The Hawks kept the pressure and staved off Lewis & Clark for the 1-0 win. Danielle Koncius had four saves in goal.
10/15/2012 - Heartland Seeded First for Region Tournament
The Heartland Hawk Women’s Soccer team is seeded #1 for the first time heading into the Region Tournament. The ladies have gone on an 11 game winning streak, 10 of those games have been shutouts. In that time they have scored 29 goals in those 11 games and only allowed two goals from their opponents. Heartland has a bye for the first game so will not play their first region game until next Thursday, October 25 at 2:00 PM which will be here at the Corn Crib vs. the winner of Parkland College/Lewis & Clark.
10/14/2012 - Another Shutout for the Hawks
Heartland had its tenth shutout of the season after defeating Southwestern Illinois College 1-0 on Sunday. The Hawks got some help from the wind as a SWIC defender tried to clear the ball the wind ended up pushing it over the goalkeepers reach to put the Hawks up 1-0 for the game.
10/13/2012 - Fahlbeck Scores in the Last Minutes
Heartland controlled the ball for most of the game but was tied 0-0 all the way to the end. With less than three minutes left in the game, Alex Fahlbeck followed the ball to the goal and scored the lone goal after it deflected off St. Charles' goal keeper.
10/05/2012 - The Hawks score five against Waubonsee
The Hawks scored two in the first half coming from Olivia Crockett and Rachel Murrill. Then three goals came in the second half from Ariel LaRocco, Alex Fahlbeck, and Kalee Hutchison.
10/06/2012 - Heartland Wins 4-0 over Elgin
Heartland started the game off strong going up 3-0 in the first half. Goals came from Allison Rodriguez, Alex Fahlbeck, and Olivia Crockett. Fahlbeck also scored the fourth goal in the second half.
10/03/2012 - Heartland Defeats ICC for Second Time
The Hawks have never defeated Region opponent, Illinois Central College in the program's history. However, they defeated the Cougars for the second time this season. Jackie LaRocco followed the ball and scored the lone goal of the game off a deflection from the goalkeeper. The Hawks are now 6-2-1 on the season.
9/29/2012 - Hawks Win in Double Overtime
The Hawks came out strong scoring the first two goals of the game. Olivia Crockett scored the first goal off an Alecia Mantei cross. Sarah Snow contributed the second goal but Kaskakia answered before the end of the first half with one goal. Heartland started the second half strong but allowed another Kaskaskia goal, tying the game 2-2. In double overtime Jackie LaRocco sent a through ball that Alexis Fahlbeck connected on with 3:14 left in the game, ending 3-2 in favor of the Hawks.
9/18/2012 - Mantei Scores Two in 6-0 win over Lincoln
Sophomore, Alecia Mantei led the Hawks to a 6-0 victory over Region 24 opponent Lincoln College. Mantei scored the first Heartland goal on a cross by Olivia Crockett, her second goal came outside the 18 after Lincoln tried clearing the ball. Alexis Fahlbeck, Christyne Grabanski, Victoria Griffin, and Jackie LaRocco also found the back of the net for Heartland.
9/8/2012 - Heartland Loses to St. Louis CC
The Hawks faced off against St. Louis CC but couldn't find the back of the net. They lost 2-0.
9/6/2012 - Hawks Tie Region Opponent Parkland College
Freshman, Heather Nowakowski scored Heartland's goal on Saturday helping the Hawks to a 1-1 tie with Region 24 opponent Parkland College.
9/4/2012 - Heartland Falls to Schoolcraft College
The Hawks faced off against Schoolcraft College on Saturday afternoon. Freshman, Olivia Crockett scored the only Heartland goal. The Hawks were tied with Schoolcraft 1-1 till the last 3 minutes of the game, when Schoolcraft found the back of the net and went up 2-1.
7/31/2012 - Heartland Women's Soccer is underway, first practices will begin August 1st. Don Ideran has taken over the coaching duties for the Hawks. Heartland will begin season play on August 12 in a scrimmage vs. the University of St. Francis at 1:00 p.m. at St. Francis.
