The Frank Lloyd Wright Experience

Chicago's vast cityscape was the canvas on which Frank Lloyd Wright created spectacular works of art at the dawn of the twentieth century. His modern residential style of architecture is found in abundance in Oak Park, the place he called home early in his career. On this trip, we will trace the life of America's most famous architect through exploring this suburb and witnessing the growth of his work, as well as that of other "Prairie School" architects Wright influenced. We will tour a landmark Frank Lloyd Wright home and studio and admire the living experiment Wright conducted in his private home, as he tried to prefect the spirit and principles of his work. In addition, we will enjoy a walking tour of Forest Avenue which is filled with examples of Wright's concept of family and home, along with a tour of George Mahr's historic Pleasant Home. Furthermore, a driving tour through select picturesque Oak Park neighborhoods will provide a panoramic view of both domestic and commercial architectural styles. We will have lunch at Winberie's in Oak Park. Your trip includes transportation to and from Chicago, all admission fees, lunch and all gratuities. Registration deadline is March 21. Sorry, no refunds after this date.

Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me

Back by popular demand - Heartland Community College is once again partnering in a fundraiser for local NPR station WGLT on a trip to see a live taping of the wildly popular NPR show "Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me." Join the hilarity with Peter Sagal and Bill Kurtis as guest panelists are quizzed on current events. Enjoy a boxed lunch as we depart Heartland. Once in Chicago you will have several hours to spend downtown on your own. Dinner will be at Elephant and Castle, an authentic quaint English pub. After dinner we'll walk to The Chase Auditorium for the two-hour taping of the show. Your trip includes transportation, show tickets, two meals and all gratuities. For this trip registration will only be available through WGLT (wglt.org/events). Date is subject to change and since this is a fundraiser, there will be no refunds.
