Dental Assistant

Prepare yourself for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in healthcare.

Open the door into the dental profession by training to become a dental assistant. Prepare to assist dentists & hygienists in providing safe and effective care for patients through sterilizing equipment, ensuring patient privacy and comfort, and communicating effectively and compassionately with patients of all ages. This 10-week program teaches you the knowledge and professionalism required to be a part of the dental team as you learn to utilize every day, entry-level dental assisting skills. Registration ends one week prior to the start of class.

  • Most employers prefer that dental assistants and aides have a high school diploma or equivalent. There are state and national examinations that test the competency of Dental Assistants and which often lead to a Dental Assistant/Hygienist certification.

    Non-native English speakers

    We want non-native English speaking students to be successful in our work ready programs. That is why you must score at the advanced level in reading, writing, speaking and listening on Adult Education’s assessments before enrolling. If your score falls below that requirement, we encourage you to enroll in Heartland’s free ESL classes as a first step. 

  • Learning Outcomes

    By the end of this course, you will be able to:

    • Identify basic parts of dental anatomy and describe their function
    • Assist dentists in providing safe and effective care for patients
    • Sterilize equipment in order to control infection and ensure a safe environment for patients and dental care providers
    • Ensure patient privacy and compliance with HIPAA and other regulations
    • Communicate effectively with diverse patients and colleagues
