Heartland Community College recently named Ian Wilson as its director of student engagement. Previously, Wilson was the associate dean of student services at Lincoln College-Normal. His start date at Heartland was November 15.

As director of student engagement, Wilson will plan and oversee student programming such as activities, clubs and organizations while ensuring programming fosters social and cultural awareness, leadership skills and personal development. Additionally, Wilson will manage the Veterans Education and Training Services (VETS) program, which serves to meet the needs of students who are military veterans.

“We are thrilled to bring Ian to Heartland,” said Anita Moore, dean of student support services. “His vast experience and broad knowledge in the student success realm will be very beneficial.”

Wilson has an extensive background in student life. His eleven years of experience includes working closely with a diverse student population. Throughout his career, he’s served as an area coordinator for the office of resident life at Luther College (Decorah, IA) and director of residential life and intramural athletics at Culver-Stockton College (Canton, MO).

While at Lincoln College-Normal, Wilson was the director of residential and student life, overseeing the administration of various departments, new student orientation and first year experience programs. In his most recent role as associate dean of student services, Wilson served as the senior student affairs and conduct officer for the Normal campus and served on several committees.

Wilson has a BS in political science and history as well as an MS in college student development and administration from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse.
