Guest commentary: Pacific Northwest EDventure was an unforgettable adventure

May 26, 2016

EDventures at Heartland Community College take participants on trips to regional events, shows and attractions to educate and enrich lives.

In early April, one group took an EDventure of a lifetime. They spent eight days traveling around the Pacific Northwest and California, making stops at the wilds of Mount St. Helens, the Columbus River Gorge, Portland and San Francisco.

One couple in particular, Robert and Darlene Bohm of Cornell, IL, were so thrilled with their trip they took a moment to email us about it. “This was the best adventure we’ve taken to date and we want to thank Heartland for this great service to the community,” wrote Darlene.

We asked Robert and Darlene to tell the community about their experience. Here’s what they had to say.

An Unforgettable Adventure

Multnomah Falls, OregonA recent trip to the Pacific Northwest, provided through Heartland, will be an EDventure forever remembered. This spectacular journey turned strangers into friends, picturesque scenes into history lessons and the word travel into relaxing, worry-free fun.

We were met in Seattle, WA by our tour manager who seemed to be a history professor with a geography major and a travel agent rolled into one. Everyone experienced her enthusiasm as she shared her wealth of knowledge throughout our trip.

Highlights, to name a few, along the way to San Francisco were the Space Needle, Mount St. Helens, Mt. Hood, Cascade mountains, Columbia River Gorge and Bonneville Dam. The Oregon coastline and dunes were breathtaking. We were able to capture it all in the comfort of our spacious tour bus.

If you want overwhelming beauty, visit the Redwood National Park and Avenue of the Giants. We stood surrounded by the magnificent trees in stunning admiration. These 300 foot majestic redwoods will forever be engraved to memory.

As we crossed the Golden Gate Bridge to the City by the Bay, we realized our journey was sadly coming to an end. During our stay in San Francisco we had ample time to enjoy all the excitement of Pier 39, Fisherman’s Wharf and a side excursion to Alcatraz.

Heartland Community College made this experience exciting, enjoyable and most of all, possible. We would never have seen anything this trip provided on our own. We also want to thank Laurie Mueller from HCC for taking us on the trip. She was professional, energetic and kept everyone on time and up to date. She made this adventure full of laughs, excitement and lasting memories.

We look forward to the next EDventure through Heartland. Hope to see you there!
