14th Annual Student Art Exhibition

April 12, 2018

The Liberal Arts and Social Sciences department at Heartland is presenting the 14th annual juried student art exhibition. Artworks are on display in the College’s library now through May 5.

The exhibition features a wide range of art media created by HCC student artists in studio art classes. The show was juried by Doug Johnson, director of the McLean County Arts Center.

Four awards were chosen by Johnson as juror. Artworks were judged based on professional presentation and mastery of the media, along with innovation, honesty and vitality.

“It was a great pleasure to serve as juror for the 2018 Heartland College Art Exhibition,” said Johnson. “The quality of work submitted was very high, making my decisions complicated. The prize winners were selected because I felt those works best represented the qualities of excellence in different mediums. These artworks are all reflective of the high level of talent, instruction, and personal exploration indicative of serious artistic investigation.”

Awards included:

First Place: Gunner Ross, Untitled

Second Place: Hannah Lovel, “Amai”

Third Place: Joyce Dwiggins, “Have a Seat”

Best of Show: Aianna Zachary, “Grandiose Mundane”

The public is invited to view the free exhibition. Heartland’s library is on the first floor of the Student Commons Building at the main campus, 1500 W. Raab Road, Normal. Library hours are:
