Marx honored with Distinguished Alumni Award

May 2, 2019

The Heartland Community College Alumni Association has named Chris Marx as recipient of the 2019 Distinguished Alumni award.

The award recognizes notable Heartland alumni who demonstrate exceptional achievement in their profession and make a positive impact on their community.

Heartland alum Marx will be recognized during the College’s May 17 Commencement ceremony at Grossinger Motors Arena. He is the eleventh recipient of the annual award. Awardees are selected from nominations by fellow Heartland alumni, faculty, staff, students and community members.

Marx is owner of Redbird Plumbing, a regular fixture on the consumer review service Angie’s List and winner of several Pantagraph Reader’s Choice awards.

Marx pursued an Associate of Arts degree in 2000 from Heartland and he attributes the College to helping him find this path after high school.

In 2014, Marx received the Outstanding Young Alumni Award from Illinois State University, where he transferred from Heartland to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management. He and his wife Lisa have three children: Tori, Taylor and Tyler.
